Dental sedation is used when a
patient suffers from dental anxiety or dental phobia. We are happy to
offer a number of solutions for our patients to make their visit as comfortable
as possible. Sedatives do not provide pain relief, so an injection of local
anesthetic will also be administered.
- Nitrous
Oxide
(Also known as“laughing gas”) is inhaled through a nose piece
that induces a state of relaxation. This is followed by a flush of oxygen
to eliminate any medication in your system by the time you leave allowing you
to drive yourself to and from your appointment.
- Oral
Sedatives
Medication can be given to a patient prior to the dental
appointment from the comfort of our private sedation room. You will need to ask
a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment.
- IV Sedation
Provides
medication through an IV inserted in your hand or arm. This allows
patients to be awake but in an extreme state of relaxation and there is usually
no memory of the procedure. You will need to ask a friend or family member to
drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after sedation.
